 Carwash Reclaim
using above ground process tanks
Multi-Media Filters and
Wastewater Recycling
Bioremediation and Multi-Media
filtration has been in existence since the dawn of time, this is
how nature has cleaned the earth and its water for millions of years.
The use of multimedia
filters in combination with bioremediation is the perfect match.
The filters will not only catch the substrates to be consumed by
the bacteria but also the inorganic materials bacteria will not
consume. Multimedia filters are the perfect biomass (collection
point) for bioremediation products. Sand and many types of silt
are examples of items that bugs will not eat. Multimedia filters
will remove these contaminants for back flushing to a removal point
that is most convenient for the operator of the carwash. Oils and
grease must be caught in a retention area (bioreactor) or coalescing
system to allow the enzymes to break them down and bacteria to consume
them.
In the environment and
in industrial applications naturally occurring bacteria are not
present in sufficient numbers and the proper strains of bacteria
are not always available. No amount of enzymes (proteins that breakdown
the substrate for the bacteria to consume) added to the water will
change the type of bacteria present. It’s true that the proper nutrients,
both micro and macro nutrients are a great benefit to the bacteria
supplementing their diet and strengthening them. Combined with the
correct enzymes these nutrients shorten or eliminate the lag phase
in bacterial buildup (colonizing your system). Choosing a proper
Biodigester product is crucial to the success of the system.

How the Extreme
Clean System Works
This Hydrokleen system
is designed to handle water recycling in automatic and self-service
car wash applications without interruption of washing, no
lost revenue. Water is pumped from the in-ground sump and
discharged to the Extreme Clean. Wastewater then flows into
a primary solids settling tank and (by gravity) onto an oil
coalescing system with 420,000 sq. in. of self-cleaning oil
coalescing material. Here oils are separated, skimmed and
decanted for disposal. By gravity water enters the first of
two multi media polishing loop systems, where water is passed
at 100 GPM multiple times through Hydrosorb media. This reduces
light and emulsified hydrocarbons to less than 10 PPM Again,
by gravity water flows to a second polishing loop with activated
carbon for addition hydrocarbon and metals removal. In the
polishing loop water is circulated at 100 GPM assuring multiple
passes through the job specific media. Filtered water is pressurized
back to the washing equipment at 40 + GPM and 20 PSI for reuse.
Excess water from rinsing passes automatically (by gravity)
from the system to sanitary sewer. Automatic back flush cycles
are on demand or at timed intervals.
